5 steps to create your own Vision Board
The first time I heard of a vision board I thought it was a silly idea, but little did I know how powerful the vision board can be to accomplish your goals. It is simply due to the law of attraction where you have this visual representation of where you want to go and you attract it into your life. The first time I created my own vision board was when I was about fifteen years old. I wish I never threw it away to show you but everything on that vision board actually came true! I wanted to travel Europe and a year later I did. I wanted to go to college and win scholarships and I did. I wanted to host women empowerment workshops, I did. Obviously you do have to put in the work, but for some reason when you look at your vision board every day then subconsciously it will be in your head and you will attract your goals into your life.
Step One - Collect your Materials
The materials that you can use to create your vision board:
- A cork board/blank poster board which I bought mine at the 99 cent store cause yo' girl on a budget
- Blank paper/notepad
- Scissors
- Pens/Markers
- Glue/Tape/Pins
- Magazines
- Pictures
- A computer and printer
Step Two - Organize your Goals
Decide what time frame you want your goals to be in either 6 months, 1-3 years, 5 years, 10 years. Next, you will separate your goals into categories. I advise you to just write what comes into your head and be true to yourself. Even if you think it would never happen you must include it if you truly want it. Here a few categories you can think of to include in your vision board. Again, think of the time frame you chose and be somewhat realistic as well as push yourself a bit.
- Career
- Health
- Personal Development
- Finance
- Education
- Hobbies
- Travel
- Family
- Faith
- Personal
Step Three - Make it a Date for Yourself
This isn't a short little project. It is a very personal project that requires you to put quality time into it. It's a fun art project and truly worth it.
- Create a focused environment - Light some candles, music, do your Miracle Morning to bring you centered
- A large clear space like a table or the floor
Step four - Be creative
- Now it is time to google the pictures that relate to your goals
- Print the pictures or cut them out from a magazine (For my vision board I used google to find pictures to match my specific goals)
- Cut out words/phrases you can add to your vision board
- Look at each goal you listed when you did your brainstorm and try to find a picture that matches that goal. The more specific your are the better. For example: You want to become a vegetarian then you can find pictures that show vegetarian food, a picture of a book about vegetarians, or maybe some facts about why becoming a vegetarian is important.
- Fill up the spaces and if you do not then make sure to keep adding on to your vision board
Step Five - All Day everyday
Now you place your vision board where you will see it all day everyday
- In your room
- Right next to your desk where you work (this is where I have it)
Your vision board are your long-term goals. Goals that will take months or years. My next blog will get more in detail on how to implement the goals on your vision board and actually accomplish them. I will break it up into months and then break it up into weeks. I want to go step by step with you, and there is no better timing than right now as we enter the new year.
